2. Tune in to the basics
Excess use of appliances around the house during day time can build up the temperature inside. Running dishwasher, TV, washing machine, or even microwave during the day will generate a lot of heat and humidity, which in turn would make your air conditioner work harder.
You can prefer to run your appliances early morning or at night will help you keep the house cool during daytime. Care must be taken to unplug the appliances when they’re not in use as they still consume energy.
You can also change your incandescent bulbs with CFL bulbs as they consume less energy and also generate less heat.
3. Make use of creative fans
Keep in mind that the actual use of a fan is to cool you and not the room!
Ensure that your ceiling fan is switched on when you’re in the room and also that it’s running in the right direction. Point the box fans towards the window to push hot air out and bring in cool air. Usage of ventilating fans helps exude warm and moist air from humid prone areas like kitchen, bathrooms, or attics.
Dump your air conditioners and go with some easy cooling hacks instead to tackle the heat. Place a bowl of ice or a bottle of cold water in front of the fan and enjoy the cool breeze. You can also keep a spray bottle filled with cold water handy to sprinkle yourself occasionally when you sit near to the fan.
Run your fan and air conditioner simultaneously to cool the room and extract humidity from the room quickly.
4. Switch to cotton bedsheets:
Go in for bedsheets and blankets made from 100% natural fibres like cotton or linen. These breathable fabrics with their smooth texture will help you keep off the perspiration and not irritate your skin.
You can also store your bedding in the coolest area of the room as soon as you wake up and use it when you sleep. One of the quirkiest ways in which you can cool off your bedding is by freezing it just 30 mins prior to your sleeping!
